Smoke Alarms Aren't Foolproof: Other Fire Alarm Measures to Save Your Home and Family

When it comes to home security, you cannot take any risks; this is particularly true when you consider fire protection and smoke or fire alarm systems. For many years, smoke alarms have been seen as sufficient protection as a part of your home security system, but this is no longer true. You can now purchase fire alarm systems that are much more complete, not only giving you early warning of fire through a fire, but also making sure that fire protection agencies are fully informed as quickly as possible.

Nowadays, your fire alarm system should have at least some of the following home security devices:
  • State of the art smoke or fire detection, carbon monoxide alarm and heat detection devices, placed in the major fire detection places in your home ? kitchen, hallway, garage and furnace areas as well as near bedrooms and the living rooms.
  • A state of the art control panel for your fire alarm system, allowing you to keep tabs on all parts of your home security system.
  • Manual police and fire alarm emergency buttons, for fire and other home security situations.
  • Indoor home fire alarm and carbon monoxide alarm security systems.
  • A heat sensor for areas that cannot realistically be covered by a fire protection device, for instance the attic.
  • Telephone connection to the home security company, the fire protection services and the police.
  • Transformer and battery backup to make sure that your home security system is functional at all times.
Of course, your home security system has to be tailored to your particular needs, and for some people it could include medical alert systems too. The most important aim of your home security monitoring system is that it alerts you, the emergency services and the home security company to a potentially disastrous situation as soon as possible.
